Update – The project’s funding goal was not reached.

It appears the specialty coffee market is expanding greatly with dozens of new shops, roasters, and products being opened or released very month. The newest one to hit the promise land of Kickstarter is the Immerset.

ImmersetThis new brewing method has the shape of a pour over brewer, works much like the french press, and is still very different than the Clever Dripper. The key is in the small lever on the side of the cone that determines the flow rate out of the dripper.

You could keep the water and grounds in there for a long period of time like a French Press or Clever, or you could let it drip more quickly like a pour over. Consequently, you have the option to determine the grind size according to the time the water is in contact with the coffee, increasing the complexity significantly.

The main difference from French press devices is that we use gravity to separate the grinds from the water rather than “pressing” a plunger. Immerset also doesn’t limit you to coarse or fine grounds since it uses a paper filter (like a pour over).

Immerset has a valve that allows you to control how fast the water flows through the coffee. This simple feature is a deceptive powerful tool to dramatically improve the pour-over results.

The designer decided to go with plastic for the main body due to its portability and durability. The inner brew chamber however, is stainless steel. There is an air gap in between the plastic and metal which will ensure a more consistent temperature throughout the brewing process.

Just $35 will get you on the list to receive the Immerset in the first shipment in May of 2014, which is $10 off the launch price.
