It’s finally happened. I’ve toyed with over a dozen coffee storage containers throughout the years, and I’ve found my forever-container.
We’ve been together for roughly 6 months now, and I think it’s time you meet it: the Ankomn Everlock.
In this transparent review, we’ll discuss:
- Why coffee bags are bad for storing your beans
- 3 reasons other storage containers have let me down
- The major difference between Ankomn’s “Everlock” and “Turn-N-Seal” containers (and why I have a strong preference for one of them)
Let’s dig into it!
Ankomn sent me two coffee storage containers last August free of charge. However, I assure you this review is fair and transparent (and I’ll prove it to you later with some negative comments).
Why I’m Finished Storing My Beans In Their Original Coffee Bags
I love a well-designed coffee package, but I hate opening the bags over and over again. Most bags rely on terrible plastic ties that lead to three big issues I refuse to waste any more time one:
- They don’t hold the coffee bag closed. This is the entire thing those plastic ties are designed to do – and they fail miserably at it.
- They’re really pokey. I’d be rich if I had a dime for every time one of those plastic ties jabbed my finger. It’s sooo annoying.
- They don’t keep my coffee beans as fresh as possible. With a fresh supply of oxygen flowing to my beans because of the poorly-functioning plastic ties, they’re constantly decaying, no matter how tightly I fold the bag.
To be clear, some bags have a zip-style closure (instead of plastic ties). These work much better, but they’re not all that common. If you like to try a variety of coffees from different roasters, you’re probably going to be dealing with plastic ties more often than not.
How Other Coffee Storage Containers Have Let Me Down
I’ve worked in coffee for years and tested my share of storage containers… and most of them have left me disappointed.
Many containers claim to create a secure vacuum to maximize freshness, only to slowly lose the vacuum over a couple of days.
Many containers are made specifically for coffee, but still have transparent walls, which allow light to damage the flavor of the beans (it’s called ‘photodegradation’, and it even happens with lightbulbs… not just sunlight).
Many containers just fall apart after a couple of months of regular use (I have a graveyard of unused containers at the top of the pantry).
That’s why I stopped using containers last year and just went back to keeping the beans in their coffee bags – and it was awful.
I dreamed of a container that would:
- wasn’t hard to use
- create a reliable seal
- protect my beans from light, heat, and oxygen
- wouldn’t lose its sealing power after a few months
And then, to my amazement, I found it.
Review: Ankomn Everlock Coffee Storage Container (My New Favorite)
Ankomn reached out and sent me 2 coffee containers: the Everlock and the Turn-N-Seal.
The Everlock looks like most storage containers, but it has a unique feature that works wonders: a twist-to-seal mechanism. Rather than pressing down a button that creates the seal, you twist the top cylinder.
I liked this for a few reasons:
- It only takes a 45-degree turn to create a complete seal of the coffee from fresh oxygen
- The lid is very secure on the container thanks to the strong seal
I’ve had push-style containers lose their seal, the lids have fallen off unexpectedly, and the push button has even gotten stuck in place, but the Ankomn Everlock is still performing perfectly after 6 months of daily use.
I trust the Everlock with my high-end coffee beans (and I’m really picky about how fresh they taste) and am confident I’ll be using the container for years to come.
Not to mention, it looks pretty classy on my coffee shelf (and not like a cheapo Walmart item like many other containers I’ve owned).
Verdict: It’s the most reliable coffee storage container I’ve ever owned.

Review: Ankomn Turn-N-Seal Coffee Storage Container
The second container, the Turn-N-Seal, features a similar top cylinder. But instead of twisting it 45 degrees to create a seal, you turn it 3-5 times completely to create a vacuum.
A sealed container is great, but a vacuum container is the ideal way to keep your coffee beans fresh – and you don’t need any electrical gear!
The lid also comes with a small indicator on top that lets you know if the vacuum has been created.
The twist-n-seal mechanism captured my attention, but I started noticing something I didn’t like: I couldn’t get the vacuum to last very long.
At first, the vacuum would last a couple of days with 3-5 twists. Then it would be lost after just one day. I tried extra turns to ensure I was creating a secure seal – and the indicator always said I did – but the next morning, the indicator would be pushed up to indicate the vacuum had been lost.
I reached out to Ankomn about the issue, and here’s what they said:
“It’s normal that every vacuum product will be lost, it’s a matter of time. However, to be honest, this is one of our biggest advantages, we’re the one which could keep vacuum last much longer than others. Normally, our container could keep vacuum more than 2 weeks, unless coffee is degassing or the container needs to be cleaned.”
Unfortunately, I couldn’t keep a seal for more than a few days. It’s possible my unit isn’t functioning correctly, however, because most reviews on Amazon are overwhelmingly positive.
Verdict: It’s a sturdy, high-quality container, but I can’t get it to keep a vacuum for more than a day at a time.
